WHY ARE THERE BOTH IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL SESSIONS THIS YEAR?
This year, Humanities Day sessions are designed for our local attendees and more geographically diverse attendees. We want to build on the virtual audience started during the pandemic. Please note that our virtual sessions are available on the Zoom platform.
I LOVED PROFESSOR ____'S TALK LAST YEARS, BUT SHE ISN'T LISTED ON THIS YEAR'S SCHEDULE. WHY?
The speakers and topics at Humanities Day change from year to year because of new research projects and the personal and professional schedules of each presenter. Individuals who spoke last year might be busy this fall, but look for them at a future Humanities Day! Alternatively, we have several years of Humanities Day presenters' sessions available on the Division of the Humanities YouTube channel.
WHERE WILL THE PRESENTATIONS BE HELD?
Each presentation's location will be listed online by late September and in your Humanities Day confirmation email. Visit our Locations and Transportation page to view a map of each location. If you have any questions on the day of the event, please stop by Humanities Day Headquarters in Stuart Hall, on the Harper Quadrangle, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Virtual presentations are held on the Zoom platform, and you will receive a Zoom Webinar link with your registration confirmation and with event reminders that will be sent via Zoom.
WILL THERE BE AS MANY SESSIONS FOR THIS YEAR'S HYBRID HUMANITIES DAY?
For this year's hybrid event, we have not planned quite as many sessions as a traditional Humanities Day. However, we do have a total of 28 sessions and tours. Of those, three of the in-person sessions will be live streamed presentations. The Keynote address will be a live audio presentation with PowerPoint slides.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN REGISTRATION FOR A PRESENTATION OR TOUR IS SOLD OUT?
Room sizes at UChicago vary widely, and some presentations and tours may reach registration capacity. If you wish to see a presentation that is no longer open for registration, you can be placed on a waitlist and be notified via email if a spot becomes available. If you have any questions about the waitlist, please contact us at humanities@uchicago.edu.
Alternatively, on the day of the event you can visit the location for your session and check in with our staff. They may be able to seat you if space becomes available.
On the other hand, virtual presentations have a higher capacity, and our Zoom Webinar license accommodates up to 500 attendees. For livestream presentations, we will keep registration open until the last session for Humanities Day 2023 begins at 3 p.m. CDT on Saturday, October 21. After this year's Humanities Day ends, the virtual and live-streamed presentations, except for the keynote session, will be available on the Humanities Division YouTube channel.
ARE THERE TICKETS FOR THIS EVENT?
You need to register online for in-person or virtual presentations, but there are no tickets for Humanities Day presentations.
HOW LONG HAS THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO DIVISION OF THE HUMANITIES BEEN HOSTING HUMANITIES DAY?
We are celebrating our 43rd Anniversary during Humanities Day 2023. While we began as a campus event, through the years, Humanities Day opened up to the entire Chicago area community. As a hybrid event this year, we hope to attract attendees from a wider geographic area.

WHERE CAN I EAT LUNCH DURING HUMANITIES DAY?
We provide Humanities Day attendees with 90 minutes for lunch—from noon to 1:30 p.m. The following restaurants are on campus or close to campus. In addition, we have requested food trucks to be available on Ellis Avenue and 58th Street (near the UChicago Bookstore).

IS THERE ON-CAMPUS TRANSPORTATION FOR INDIVIDUALS?
We have UChicago shuttles and City buses #171 and #172 but cannot provide individual transportation. Please plan accordingly.
